Clinician Resources for Identifying and Treating Substance Use Disorder and Opioid Use Disorder (SUD/OUD)

The number of drug overdose deaths in Maine has continued to increase significantly over the past 10 years, despite sustained efforts to identify and treat opioid use and substance use disorders. In September 2023, the Maine Hospital Association Board of Directors voted unanimously to support and participate in the 1,000 Lives Campaign for Maine to reduce the number of predicted opioid-related deaths in Maine by 1,000 from current projections. This campaign is led by Maine’s healthcare providers through the implementation of five specific interventions, or “bundles,” based on healthcare setting. Please refer to the “1,000 Lives Campaign” section for more information on these interventions.

The Maine Substance Use Disorders Learing Community offers training, events, webinar and other resources for clinicians treating substance use disorder.

All clinicians have a role to play in this work and we appreciate all efforts of identifying and treating SUD/OUD in your community already underway. To better support Maine hospitals, the following resources, made available by the Maine CDC and other state stakeholders, have been organized to facilitate easier access and utilization as providers and clinicians begin or continue this important work.

* The Maine CDC Treat ME Resource document has been organized on MHA’s SUD/OUD Resource page; however, if you would like to download or access the document directly, please click HERE. Please reach out to Sally Weiss at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns related to these resources.
