(Rockport, ME, June 25, 2008)-Thomas J. Moakler, CEO of Houlton Regional Hospital, was installed as chair of the Maine Hospital Association Board of Directors at the Association's Summer Forum at the Samoset Resort in Rockport Wednesday night.

Moakler succeeds Peter Chalke, president and CEO of Central Maine Medical Center and Central Maine Healthcare Corporation in Lewiston, who becomes the board's immediate past chair. The current immediate past chair, Doug Jones, CEO and president of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, will leave the board, as will Dorothy E. Hill, CEO of The Acadia Hospital in Bangor; Eileen Skinner, president and CEO of Mercy Hospital in Portland; and Jeanne Fortier who had been vice president of clinical services at Mount Desert Island Hospital and the OMNE-Nursing Leaders of Maine representative.

Joining the board are Arthur Blank, president and CEO of Mount Desert Island Hospital as chair of the Quality Council; Dennis King, CEO of Spring Harbor Hospital, as chair of the Mental Health Council; and Donna Libby, nursing director at Maine Medical Center, as the OMNE representative.

New officers on the MHA Board of Directors are Chair-Elect: Kris Doody, CEO, Cary Medical Center; Treasurer: Jud Knox, CEO, York Hospital; Secretary: Marie Vienneau, CEO, Millinocket Regional Hospital.

Moakler has been CEO at Houlton since 1996. Among his many accomplishments was the initiation of a revenue enhancement/expense control program that improved the financial performance of the hospital; the implementation of a strategic planning process to make Houlton the hospital and employer of choice in its service area; and the development of an employee retention program that reduced staff turnover to the single digits.

Before coming to Houlton, Moakler was president and CEO of Mercy Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY, from 1992 to 1996.
