Coalition Proposes Changes to Dirigo
Proposal would ensure long-term viability of insurance program
Emphasizing that they continue to support the goals of
the Dirigo Health Reform Legislation of 2003, the Maine State Chamber
of Commerce, the Maine Hospital Association and the Maine Association
of Health Plans on March 9 released a proposal to ensure the long-term
viability of the Dirigo Health Program. See

The Dirigo Health Plan is intended to make quality, affordable health
care available to every Maine citizen and initiate new processes for
cost containment and quality improvement. The Maine Hospital Association
supports efforts to expand coverage through Dirigo Health.
In addition, the association wants to:
- Educate about true drivers of health care costs & insurance
premiums
- Preserve rational access to health care services
- Ensure current & future investments in health care quality
- Provide leadership in shaping public access to cost & quality
information while avoiding unnecessary state-level data collection
