John Ronan new MHA board chair

Ronan-small.jpg(Rockport & Augusta, Maine, June 19, 2019): John Ronan, president of Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital (BHH), in Blue Hill, and Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital (MCH) in Ellsworth, was installed as chair of the Maine Hospital Association Board of Directors on Wednesday, June 19, at the Association’s annual Summer Forum at the Samoset Resort in Rockport.

Ronan succeeds outgoing chair Charlie Therrien, president of Northern Light Mercy Hospital in Portland, who becomes the immediate past chair.  Steve Diaz, MD, chief medical officer at MaineGeneral Health in Augusta, becomes the chair-elect.  Mark Fourre, MD, president of Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, becomes the board treasurer and Terri Vieira, president of Northern Light Charles A. Dean Hospital in Greenville and Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, will become secretary.  She is also an incoming board member

Others joining the board are Chuck Hays, president and chief executive officer of MaineGeneral Medical Center; Jeffery Sanders, president of Maine Medical Center in Portland; Mike Hendrix, chief financial officer at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, joining as chair of the Healthcare Finance Council; Scott Oxley, president of Northern Light Acadia Hospital in Bangor, joining as chair of the Behavioral Health Council; and Lois Skillings, president and chief executive officer of Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, joins as chair of the Public Policy Council.   

Ronan has been president at BHH since 2014 and president at MCH since 2016.  Before that he was chief operating officer/chief strategy officer at BHH and was responsible for overall organizational operations including direct oversight of clinical and ancillary support systems and departments.  Before coming to BHH in 2009, he worked for EMHS (Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems) in Brewer, as a corporate director in information systems and as a vice president in the finance division.  Most recently, he has served as chair of MHA’s Public Policy Council.  He also serves on the American Hospital Association’s Regional Policy Board.
